{"rendered":""}

Hitachi previously supplied a fleet of TEMU 1000 inter-city EMUs to TRA.

TAIWAN Railway Administration (TRA) and its procurement agent the Bank of Taiwan signed a $NT 44.3bn ($US 1.6bn) contract with Hitachi on January 15 for 50 12-car inter-city EMUs.

TRA is procuring the 150km/h 25kV 60Hz trains as part of its 2015 – 2024 Train Procurement and Renewal Plan.

Delivery of the 1067mm-gauge trains will begin in 2021.

Hitachi was competing in the tender against Stadler, which offered a train based on its Smile EMU platform.

Hitachi previously supplied 64 TEMU 1000 inter-city EMUs to TRA in two batches between 2007 and 2015.
